I remember back when I first started growing daylilies & I found my first Bee pod, I had no clue as to what it was. Yes, even if you don’t hybridize, you can have your own seedlings thanks to the bees. Hybridizing for me was very addictive, even more so than buying daylilies. During bloom season I am out every morning dabbing pollen all over the place up until it gets so hot that the crosses won’t take anymore. I have learned to do my Tet crosses first & later do the Dips because they generally are easier to get a pod to set. I end up with so many seeds that I can’t possibly plant them all. I have been hybridizing for fun since 2003 but have set some goals in the past few years. I love purples in UFO form. I collect Munson daylilies & have recently started hybridizing with some of them. And just last season, I decided to start working with late & very late bloomers. My next goal is to register my own daylilies in the next year or so.
